Maria Rita Testa has won a grant from the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) to explore the dynamic between reproductive decision-making and human capital. The Elise Richter Program aims to support the academic career of extremely well qualified female scientists. The grant, which goes to the Vienna Institute of Demography/Austrian Academy of Sciences, adds to the numerous other grants won by researchers at the Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital.

Current population changes in much of the developed world present an opportunity, not a threat, according to a new report produced by the Wittgenstein Centre, which underlies discussions this week at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Beyond 2014 conference. The report provides 36 best practices in response to the demographic challenges, noting that one policy cannot fit all countries.
